Certified Lifeloc Operator and Calibration Technician (C-LOCT)
Definition C-LOCT training is distinct from and in addition to the Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) qualification and training. The C-LOCT certification provides additional capability in operating and understanding the Lifeloc breath testing equipment being used, covers maintenance requirements, and details the calibration and calibration check (verification) features.

This certification is a requirement in order to perform a calibration on any Lifeloc evidential breath tester per the instrument's Quality Assurance Plan (QAP.)

The C-LOCT certification provides an added level of integrity and proficiency to any alcohol testing program whether the program is DOT mandated or not.
Initial Requirements Must attend a C-LOCT class in person or live via the web with a Lifeloc Certified Provisional Instructor or Master Trainer.

Most often, this training is combined into one course with BAT qualification training resulting in the issuance of both the C-LOCT and BAT certificates with coinciding dates.

The C-LOCT is specific to the Lifeloc breath alcohol testing model and an operator must be trained on each device they are using.
Recertification Requirements Every five years an equipment specific re-certification exam must be completed and returned to Lifeloc. This test is available by fax, email or US Mail.
Qualifications Required to Instruct Instructors and Master Trainers must be certified by Lifeloc and hold current credentials. Contact Lifeloc to verify an Instructor's status

Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT)
Definition BAT qualification training is the most basic of certification and is required by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to conduct valid alcohol screening and confirmation testing.

BAT training covers the DOT rules and regulations as detailed in the government document 49 CFR Part 40, valid testing procedures, and the basic fundamentals of proficiency on the equipment being used.

Many organizations choose to conform their Non-DOT mandated alcohol testing programs with the US government's model utilizing BATs to perform the testing thus ensuring accurate and defensible results.
Initial Requirements Must complete procedural training (49 CFR Part 40 Rules and Regulations) through an internet based course or via instructor, which can be in person, by video or over the web. In addition, a minimum of seven consecutive mock test must be performed live and observed in real time by a qualified instructor. This observation can be in person or via live web cam.

The equipment proficiency training is specific to the manufacturer and model of the breath alcohol testing equipment being used. The BAT must be able to provide proof that they are proficient on each model they may use.
Recertification Requirements Per the DOT, a refresher course must be completed every five years. This refresher course has the same basic requirements as the initial BAT training
Qualifications Required to Instruct The instructor must be an individual who has demonstrated necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities by regularly conducting DOT alcohol tests as an STT or BAT, as applicable, for a period of at least a year, who has conducted STT or BAT training, as applicable, under this part for a year, or who has successfully completed a "train the trainer" course.

Lifeloc Certified Provisional Instructor
Definition Provisional Instructors are qualified to train C-LOCTs and BATs within their organization, and it's departments and divisions. They may not train outside their organization or certify other Lifeloc Instructors.

Provisional Instructor Certification is ideal for organizations with larger staffs reducing costs and potential down time.
Initial Requirements Must attend a Provisional Instructor (Train the Trainer) course live or via the web with a Lifeloc Certified Master Trainer.

Generally, an instructor candidate has held a BAT for a minimum of three months prior to attending class.

Instructor training is Lifeloc model specific.
Recertification Requirements Every two years a recertification exam must be completed and returned to Lifeloc. This test is available fax, email or US Mail.

Must be in good standing with Lifeloc and have conducted training in the prior two years.

The Instructor is also required to maintain a current BAT certification.
Qualifications Required to Instruct Only a Lifeloc Master Trainer may certify a Lifeloc Provisional Instructor.

Lifeloc Certified Master Trainer (C-LMT)
Definition Master Trainers are certified by Lifeloc to train C-LOCTs, BATs and Provisional Instructors.

In most cases, C-LMTs are a distributer or dealer of Lifeloc products.
Initial Requirements Must attend a Lifeloc Master Trainer Course conducted by Lifeloc and have held a Provisional Instructor Certificate for at least one year or provide equivalency.
Recertification Requirements Every Year, the Certified Lifeloc Master Trainer must attend Lifeloc's annual meeting.

The Master Trainer must be in good standing with Lifeloc and have conducted training the prior year.
Qualifications Required to Instruct Only Lifeloc may certify a Lifeloc Master Trainer.
