Student Drinking and Breath Alcohol Testing

Secondary schools, colleges and universities are increasingly implementing breath alcohol testing for activities such as Proms, sporting events, and graduation ceremonies.  Misinformation in the media concerning this trend is common, but it is important to note that the testing is much easier to implement than many believe, and can be very fast, unobtrusive and non-invasive.  It should also be emphasized that the goal of school event testing is benign and serves a highly positive purpose: that is, these programs are almost always implemented for deterrence and student safety, and not prosecution.
